What materials do we use?

During the lessons we work with a variety of drawing materials: from pencil, fineliner, and charcoal to ink, chalk, and colored pencil. Sometimes we combine materials or experiment with texture and surfaces. This helps us discover what best suits our personal style – and introduces us to new techniques.

Hi Everybody

My name is Nancy, and I teach drawing to children (ages 10–18) and adults. I believe that everyone can learn how to draw well. Through fun creative and technical drawing assignments, we build a solid foundation that allows students to grow artistically and confidently.

I believe it’s important for children – and honestly, for adults too – to develop their creativity. It strengthens their problem-solving skills, imagination, and self-confidence.
In a world where processes are increasingly automated and AI is gaining influence, I believe these human abilities are more essential than ever.

Alongside teaching drawing classes, I also work freelance as a creative workshop facilitator, art educator (CKV), and I occasionally design creative programs for primary education.

“The drawing class is so much fun! Thanks to all the tips and guidance, I’ve found my own style!”

Fae-Lynn, age 12

“A great class to attend – helpful tips and a pleasant way of teaching.”

Ipek, age 11

“We have the freedom to choose our own projects and draw what we want. It’s not too strict – we learn good techniques and you really notice progress.”

Joni, age 13

“The lessons strike a good balance between doing your own thing, being independent, and learning together.”

Sophie, age 16

“Great class! I’ve really started to enjoy painting.”

Zohal, age 12

FAQ’s

“I have a low income, but my child would really love to join the drawing lessons with you!”
Not every family can afford the costs of drawing lessons or other cultural activities. But that should not be a reason for children to miss out. For families with a low income, there is the Youth  Sport & Culture Fund (Their website is in Dutch) This fund covers (part of) the course fees, so that every child has the chance to discover and develop their talents. Parents can apply through an intermediary, such as the school, the municipality, or a social worker.
What age group are the drawing lessons for?

The lessons are specially designed for children and teenagers between the ages of 10 and 16. On the De VAK website it says from 12, but children from 10 years old are also welcome to join. Just send an email to nancy@tekenlessen-delft.nl

Do you need experience to join? Do you already have to be good at drawing?

No, anyone can join. Both beginners and more advanced students will receive guidance at their own level.

What materials do you use? Do I need to bring anything?

We work with a variety of materials, such as pencil, ink, charcoal, markers, chalk, and paint. All materials are provided in the studio, so you don’t need to bring anything.

How big are the groups?

There can be up to 18 children per group, ensuring plenty of personal attention for each child.

What does a typical lesson look like?

Each week, participants receive a creative assignment focusing on one of the visual elements (line, shape, contrast, color, perspective, space). The lesson begins with a short explanation, after which everyone works on their own project. Along the way, they receive tips and personal guidance.

What will my child learn in the course?

In addition to learning different drawing techniques, children also learn to look at the world like an artist, discover their own creative style, and build self-confidence through making art.

Can my child try a trial lesson?

Absolutely! A trial lesson is a great way to get acquainted and see if the classes are a good fit.

I can’t come on Mondays

No problem! The class is also offered on Friday afternoons from 4:30 to 6:00 pm.

I want to learn how to draw comics and manga

No problem! We practice different styles. If you enjoy drawing comics, manga, or fantasy, you are more than welcome to bring that into the lessons.

Will our drawings be exhibited anywhere?

We collect the drawings in a portfolio, and later in the season there will be a small exhibition at DOK OPEN. Together, we’ll look at your work and choose which pieces you’d like to exhibit. Participation in the exhibition is optional!

Where are the lessons held?

At De VAK in DOK OPEN, Delft, studio 2.1.

What are the costs? Is material included?

For the entire season (33 lessons), the cost is €495. Materials are included.

What is your background?

After studying Graphic Media Technology at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, I went on to study Fine Arts at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. After completing my studies, I held several exhibitions.

Teaching creative lessons for children and teenagers is something I truly enjoy. Through the lessons, I aim to bring out the best in each child and let them experience the magic of good (drawing) art. Additionally, the lessons are an opportunity for me to share my love for craftsmanship and the creative process.

I believe that through creative work, our inner child isn’t lost in the routine of everyday life, and it helps us stay fresh and vibrant from within!

How can we reach you?
